PREPARING FOR YOUR FLIGHT
WHAT DO I NEED TO KNOW OR DO? +
Prior to flight, all guests receive a complete FAA-compliant safety briefing covering boarding procedures, seat belts, dynamic weight balancing, and in-flight communication systems. No prior flight experience is required; our pilots guide you through every stage of the journey.
ARE FLIGHTSEEING TOURS SAFE? +
Safety is our absolute highest priority. Heli Alaska operates under strict FAA Part 135 commercial certification. Our aircraft undergo rigorous daily pre-flight inspections and scheduled professional maintenance cycles, and our seasoned pilots have thousands of active mountain flight hours.
WHAT CAN I BRING WITH ME? +
You are welcome and highly encouraged to bring cameras, smartphones, and sunglasses. Sturdy closed-toe shoes are required. Large backpacks or loose bulky gear are restricted inside the cabin to maintain maximum payload margins.
WHAT SHOULD I WEAR? +
Dress in warm, comfortable layers (even in summer) as temperatures near glacier elevations can drop dramatically. We recommend sturdy hiking boots or closed-toe walking shoes. We provide specialized spikes/crampons for active glacier walks.
GENERAL INFORMATION
WHAT IS THE MOST FAMOUS GLACIER IN ALASKA? +
The Knik Glacier is one of South-central Alaska's most grand and famous ice fields. Stretching over 25 miles long and 5 miles wide, it serves as the spectacular focal point of our glacier landing flights.
HOW MANY GLACIERS ARE IN ALASKA? +
There are over 100,000 glaciers across Alaska, covering roughly 5% of the state's surface area. The Chugach Mountain range alone hosts some of the densest and most spectacular ice systems in the world.
DO ALL TOURS INCLUDE A LANDING? +
Glacier-landing tours include a scheduled 30-minute landing on the ice for a guided walk. Basic flightseeing scenic tours provide continuous birds-eye views without active landing stops.
WHICH TOURS ARE BEST FOR PHOTOGRAPHY? +
The Hatcher Pass and Knik Glacier tours are world-renowned for photography. The sweeping alpine valleys, deep blue melt pools, and dramatic mountain peaks provide perfect lighting and framing.
TOURS INFORMATION
HOW MANY PEOPLE PER TOUR? +
Our Robinson R44 helicopters comfortably host up to 3 passengers plus 1 certified pilot. To maintain safe weight and balance limits, the maximum passenger seat limit is 300 lbs, with a total payload limit.
CAN I CUSTOMIZE MY TOUR? +
Absolutely. We offer fully customizable private charter packages for proposal flights, custom photography shoots, geological research support, or extended mountain landings. Contact our operations desk to build your flight plan.
WHAT IF THE WEATHER'S BAD? +
Alaska weather is highly dynamic. If flight conditions are determined unsafe by the pilot, we will coordinate with you to reschedule the tour or issue a full refund. Safety clearances are checked hourly.
ARE GLACIER HELICOPTER TOURS WORTH IT? +
Standing on an ancient, 1,000-foot-thick glacial ice sheet in the middle of untouched Alaskan wilderness is a once-in-a-lifetime experience. The sheer scale, crystal-blue meltwater pools, and towering seracs are incomparable.
